The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially begun the registration of children aged 6 to 14 years for the Ghana Card, with the initial phase being conducted exclusively at Premium Registration Centres across the country.
According to a statement released in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, and signed by Mr. Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, this initiative is part of the Authority’s broader mandate to integrate all Ghanaians, including children, into the national identification system.
The registration service at these Premium Centres comes at a fee of GH¢310, which the NIA clarified is the standard service fee already approved for such centres and not a newly introduced charge.
To successfully register their children, parents or guardians must provide proof of the child’s identity. Acceptable documents include:
- A valid Ghanaian passport of the child
- The child’s original birth certificate
- The Ghana Card of a parent or guardian who can vouch for the child’s identity
In an effort to enhance accessibility and convenience, the NIA announced that starting Monday, September 15, 2025, its online appointment booking system will be extended to all 11 Premium Centres nationwide. This will allow families to schedule appointments in advance and avoid unnecessary delays.
Furthermore, the Authority revealed plans to expand the registration exercise to all District Offices in the coming weeks, making the service more accessible to families living outside major urban areas. Children who complete the registration process will receive their Ghana Cards shortly thereafter.
The NIA urged all parents and guardians to comply with the registration requirements and timelines. This initiative forms part of the Authority’s efforts to ensure universal coverage and inclusion of all Ghanaians in the national identity database.
