The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the arrest of two of its personnel in connection with alleged extortion at LongShine Mining Company Limited, located in Prestea-Obohu in the Western Region.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025, also involves several civilian accomplices. A formal investigation is currently underway in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.
In an official statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF emphasized its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that justice is served.
“The Ghana Armed Forces is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to establish the facts surrounding an extortion incident involving two soldiers and civilian accomplices at LongShine Mining Company Limited in Prestea-Obohu,” the statement read.
The Armed Forces further assured the public that any personnel found guilty will not be shielded but will be subjected to the full extent of the law.
“If found culpable, personnel will face the law as any other citizen of Ghana. The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that it will not protect its personnel involved in criminal activities,” the statement added.
The GAF reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct within its ranks and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, accountability, and public trust.
