It's Not My Car— Woman Defends Husband for Taking Car Key While Traveling

A Nigerian woman has gone viral on TikTok after sharing a humorous video highlighting her husband's habit of taking the car key with him while traveling, even though the car is left at home.

In the video, the woman is seen standing next to the parked vehicle, explaining that her husband has once again traveled with the key, forcing her and their children to use a motorcycle (commonly referred to as "okada") for school runs. Despite the inconvenience, she explained that this situation is a regular occurrence in their household and that she has become accustomed to it.

“He has travelled again with the car key while the car is here… bike all the way. This is a routine, so I am used to it. He parks the car in the compound and takes the key along with him,” she narrated in the video.

The clip quickly gained attention online, with many users finding humor in her candid delivery. However, it also attracted criticism from some who felt the husband’s actions were inconsiderate. In response, the woman firmly defended her husband, emphasizing that the car does not belong to her and that she does not feel entitled to it.

“Must I drive the car? It is not mine, so I don’t have the need to be entitled to it. A man who pays school fees, house rent, and feeding shouldn’t be labeled bad or wicked because of a funny video,” she wrote.

Beyond defending her spouse, she used the opportunity to advocate for women’s financial independence.

“Women, hustle for your own money, especially if your husband isn’t big on sharing. Get the things you desire without waiting for anyone to hand them over,” she advised.

Social media users expressed mixed reactions. While some applauded her for promoting self-reliance and maturity in handling marital issues, others continued to debate the fairness of her husband’s actions.

The video, which was posted by TikTok user @mjobi7, remains a trending topic, sparking conversations about entitlement, marital dynamics, and financial independence.
