Phyna, the Nigerian reality TV star, has publicly expressed her dissatisfaction with the Dangote Group's response to the tragic death of her sister. Following a horrific accident involving one of Dangote’s trucks in Edo State, Phyna's sister, Ruth, was left in a coma and ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
In an emotional revelation, Phyna shared that her family was offered a mere N20 million by the Dangote Group as compensation. This amount, she claims, is insufficient to cover the immense medical expenses and loss her family endured. According to Phyna, the compensation does not reflect the true cost of her sister's medical care or the value of her life.
Phyna had initially demanded a much higher sum—N1 billion—as compensation for her sister’s tragic accident, believing it to be a fair amount given the circumstances. Many online commentators, however, criticized her demand as being excessive.
In the latest development, Phyna further accused Dangote Group of influencing the medical staff at Lagoon Hospital, where her sister was treated, to expedite Ruth's death in order to minimize the financial burden of her care. She expressed her suspicions that the hospital was instructed to take drastic actions to end her sister’s life prematurely.
Phyna expressed her anger on social media, stating that the N20 million offered by the Dangote Group is "insignificant," especially considering the extensive medical costs incurred. She recounted her own personal expenses, such as the hundreds of thousands of Naira she had to pay to remove her sister's body from the mortuary, and the considerable costs her family faced throughout her sister’s medical treatment.
"I do not engage in online rants," Phyna wrote. "I will speak my truth, and if it leads to consequences, so be it." She added that she was deeply disappointed by the actions of the Dangote Group and its handling of the situation, claiming that the company has shown a lack of empathy for her family's pain.
This incident has sparked widespread outrage and sympathy from Nigerians, many of whom have rallied behind Phyna, expressing their support for her and condemning the company’s actions. Despite the backlash, Phyna remains resolute in her stance, demanding accountability and justice for the loss of her sister.
