Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has emphasized that Ghana’s 2026 Budget should serve as a central instrument for economic transformation and a significant step toward reducing the country’s reliance on external assistance.
Addressing participants at a Post-Budget Workshop in Accra, Bagbin described the national budget as a strategic roadmap capable of guiding Ghana toward long-term growth and greater self-sufficiency.
“A common refrain echoes across Africa: Africa is not poor; it is poorly managed, and the budget is the clearest expression of that management. At this pivotal moment, our budget must serve as the primary tool for reshaping Ghana’s economic paradigm,” he stated.
Bagbin further stressed that the budget’s policies must prioritize building a resilient and domestically driven economy.
“The policies contained in this budget must steer us away from dependency toward a robust, homegrown economy. Honourable Members, the data tells a clear and urgent story—reform cannot wait,” he added.
