The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has successfully dismantled a major cyber fraud and human trafficking operation operating in the Mataheko-Afienya area.
The operation, named *Operation LIFELINE*, led to the rescue of seven Nigerian nationals who were trafficked into Ghana under false pretenses and forced into illegal online activities.
The raid, conducted on Friday, November 14, 2025, resulted in the arrest of ten individuals. Among them, three are believed to be the masterminds behind the criminal network, while the remaining seven are victims, ranging in age from 17 to 30. All those involved are Nigerian nationals.
According to a statement released by EOCO on Monday, November 17, the victims were promised legitimate employment opportunities in Ghana. However, upon arrival, they were subjected to fear, abuse, and coercion, being forced to participate in cyber fraud activities that primarily benefited the traffickers.
The rescued individuals are now receiving medical care and psychological support, while investigators continue to probe the full scope of the trafficking and fraud operation.
This case highlights the growing connection between human trafficking and sophisticated cyber crime, a dangerous trend that continues to exploit vulnerable young people. EOCO has used this opportunity to call on the public to report any suspicious activities, particularly those related to potential trafficking or cyber fraud operations.
In a related appeal, the office urged landlords to be vigilant when renting properties, advising them to conduct thorough background checks to avoid inadvertently providing shelter to criminal groups.
"Individuals involved in such illegal activities are strongly warned to cease these operations, as EOCO remains fully committed to apprehending and prosecuting offenders," the statement read.
