A teacher, Samuel Ofosu Amartey, has been granted bail in the amount of GHC100,000 with two sureties by the Amasaman Circuit Court in Accra. Amartey faces charges related to an alleged recruitment scam.
The Court, presided over by Her Honor Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, each earning at least GHC2,000 per month. Additionally, Amartey was instructed to report to the police investigator handling the case every Tuesday. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges of defrauding by pretence and is scheduled to return to court on December 18 for further proceedings.
Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah presented the facts of the case, outlining that the complainant, Mr. Eric Manteaw, is a professional teacher residing in Asamankese. Amartey, also a teacher, lives in Jamestown.
In January 2024, Amartey approached Manteaw with an offer to recruit applicants for positions within the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana National Fire Service. Believing the offer to be legitimate, Manteaw informed his family and friends, gathering 19 individuals who collectively paid a sum of GHC150,000 to Amartey for the recruitment process.
However, Amartey failed to fulfill his promise and subsequently went into hiding, according to the prosecution. A formal complaint was lodged with the Amasaman Police Station, leading to Amartey's arrest. Following investigations, he was arraigned before the court.
The case continues, and Amartey is set to appear in court again on December 18, 2025.
