Nigerian rapper and YBNL boss Olamide has clarified that Wizkid, the Afrobeats superstar, started his music career ahead of him, saying the latter has been in the industry a year or two longer.
In a recent interview with streamer Azeeez, Olamide addressed the misconception that he and Wizkid began their careers at the same time. He explained that while both artists rose to prominence around 2010, their timelines were slightly different.
Fans often link the two because they both gained widespread recognition during the same period: Wizkid with his breakout single "Holla at Your Boy" in January 2010, and Olamide with "Eni Duro" later that year. Their parallel rise was solidified when both were nominated for the Next Rated category at the 2011 Headies Awards, an honor won by Wizkid.
Olamide set the record straight, saying, *“Wizkid and I didn’t start doing music at the same time. He started a year or two before me; he was already putting out music before I came.”*
This clears up the long-held belief among fans that both artists launched their careers simultaneously.
