Yaw Tog Says New Acts Are Hesitant to Approach Him for Collaborations

Ghanaian drill artiste Yaw Tog has opened up about the challenges he faces in connecting with emerging talent in Kumasi, revealing that many new acts are hesitant to approach him for collaborations.

In a recent interview, Yaw Tog noted that while the drill music genre continues to thrive in Kumasi, particularly on platforms like TikTok, many of the younger artists promoting the genre are reluctant to reach out to established figures like him for partnerships.

“Kumasi still has a strong presence of drill acts, and the genre is especially popular on TikTok, where it’s being pushed by these young talents,” Yaw Tog explained. “I believe they just need more exposure, and they’ll really do well.”

When asked if these upcoming artists ever reach out to him online for collaborations, Yaw Tog admitted that some do, but many are too shy to approach him directly. “Some do reach out, but others are scared to approach me. They don’t have the confidence to ask for what they want,” he said. “I encourage them to keep working hard, and the opportunities will come.”

Yaw Tog also reflected on his experience working with Dancehall star Stonebwoy, both on his *Tog City* album and on Stonebwoy's *Toucher* Extended Play. He shared that he had dreamt about collaborating with Stonebwoy long before the two worked together.

Speaking with Lord Sly on Guide Radio 91.5 FM, Yaw Tog described his relationship with Stonebwoy as deeply spiritual. "With Stonebwoy, the connection is spiritual. It didn’t just happen physically; I actually had a dream about him before we met in person," he said. "When you see me and Stonebwoy together, you can feel the love between us. He’s like a big brother to me, and he’s been supportive ever since I first visited his house."

Yaw Tog also recalled their initial meeting at the 2022 Global Citizen event at the Independence Square in Accra. “When I met him there, we exchanged pleasantries, and he told me we’d work together. We had a conversation backstage, and here we are now,” he said.

The collaboration between the two artists marks a significant moment in Yaw Tog’s career, underscoring the importance of both personal connections and the persistence required to succeed in the music industry.
