Ambassador Victor Smith Urges Ghanaians Abroad to Invest in Ghana’s Economic Transformation

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, has called on Ghanaians living abroad to contribute to the nation’s economic growth by bringing their skills and expertise back home, and partnering with investors to foster development.

In a recent address during visits to Ghanaian churches in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Monday, December 1, 2025, Ambassador Smith emphasized that the country's underdevelopment remains a key factor driving many citizens to seek opportunities overseas.

"Many would return home if Ghana were as developed as the U.S.," Smith remarked. "It’s disheartening to see our people pursuing opportunities elsewhere when they could be contributing to the growth of their own country."

Ambassador Smith urged the Ghanaian diaspora to utilize their knowledge and experience to collaborate with local investors in the quest for national transformation. "I expect investors to seek out individuals with your skill sets for partnerships in Ghana. We need your expertise, innovation, and experience to drive our nation’s development," he added.

The Ambassador also stressed the importance of job creation in reducing the need for migration. He underscored that providing well-paying employment opportunities is essential for promoting national growth and decreasing the number of Ghanaians leaving the country in search of work.

"Jobs, jobs, jobs — that is our priority. We want fewer Ghanaians feeling forced to leave the country in search of opportunities," he stated.

Ambassador Smith’s remarks come as part of ongoing efforts by the Ghanaian government to engage the diaspora in the country’s development and attract investment in key sectors.
