Annoh-Dompreh Hails Ernest Kumi as a Resilient Leader and Dedicated Public Servant

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, delivered a moving tribute on behalf of the Minority Caucus during the funeral service of the late Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, praising his unwavering resilience, integrity, and commitment to national service.

Opening with a scripture from Psalm 116:15 — “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” — Annoh-Dompreh said the caucus had gathered with “hearts burdened by sorrow, yet uplifted by gratitude” as they bid farewell to their “colleague, brother, and friend.”

Kumi, who passed away on July 7, 2025, was described as leaving behind “a profound wound in our collective spirit,” serving as a reminder of both life’s fragility and the enduring impact of a purposeful life.

Annoh-Dompreh recounted Kumi’s political journey, emphasising that it was far more than a climb through political ranks. Instead, it was “the story of a man who refused to give up — a man whose determination outweighed every challenge before him.” He characterised him as a true fighter: principled, courageous, and steadfast in his belief that God’s timing is perfect.

Reflecting on Kumi’s electoral history, Annoh-Dompreh recalled his narrow loss in the 2020 election, followed by his successful bid to regain the party’s nomination ahead of the 2024 polls. “In December 2024, the good people of Akwatia spoke decisively, granting him their mandate,” he noted.

Even when the results were challenged, Kumi demonstrated deep respect for the rule of law. As a trained lawyer, he “fought calmly and courageously through the legal processes until justice prevailed.”

“That was Yaw — the fighter, resilient and unwavering,” Annoh-Dompreh added.

Kumi was sworn into office on January 7, 2025, formally becoming the Member of Parliament for Akwatia. Annoh-Dompreh highlighted his service on the Lands and Natural Resources Committee, among other parliamentary responsibilities, noting that Kumi distinguished himself both in committee work and on the parliamentary floor.

“He served with dignity, commitment, and excellence,” he stated, honouring Kumi’s legacy as a public servant whose contributions will be remembered.
