The Bantama Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Fiifi Mensah, has officially declared his support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming party flagbearer election.
In an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mr. Mensah explained that he had already communicated his position to party members in his constituency, stressing that his endorsement of Dr. Bawumia should not be seen as an attack on other aspirants.
“In my constituency, I have made it clear that if we truly want the betterment of the party, we must work together,” Mr. Mensah stated. “In elections, you cannot intimidate anyone. The decision ultimately lies between the voter and the ballot paper.”
He acknowledged that while individual constituency and regional executives may have their own preferences, all flagbearer hopefuls would be given equal opportunity to campaign within Bantama.
“All the chairpersons know who they are supporting, but on 31st December, we will all find out who wins the flagbearer race, and once the winner emerges, we will rally behind that person,” he said.
Mr. Mensah emphasized that his personal support for Dr. Bawumia does not give him the right to obstruct or criticize other contenders.
“My support for Dr. Bawumia does not mean I will hinder anyone’s campaign. We allow every candidate who comes to Bantama to engage delegates freely,” he said. “I am not a pretender. My party members in Bantama know exactly where I stand.”
The Bantama NPP Chairman also called on party members to respect differing views within the party, stressing that unity after the election is essential.
“Having divergent views does not mean we should fight each other. At the end of the day, whoever wins becomes the candidate we will all support in the 2028 presidential election,” he concluded.
