Dr. Bryan Acheampong, an aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, has stated that he is comfortably leading the race to become the party’s presidential candidate, insisting that the outcome is unlikely to favor any other contender.
Speaking on PM Express on Tuesday, the former Abetifi Member of Parliament said his assertion is grounded in comprehensive internal data compiled by his campaign team ahead of the NPP presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Dr. Acheampong explained that his team has conducted detailed profiling of about 190,000 delegates out of the party’s estimated 209,000 eligible voters. According to him, this extensive exercise has given his campaign a clear and reliable understanding of voting intentions within the party, presenting a markedly different picture from publicly released opinion polls.
“I am close to 50 per cent based on our profiling, and the closest competitor is at about half of that,” he said.
His claims stand in contrast to findings from an October poll by Global InfoAnalytics, which placed him at five per cent, behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong. Dr. Acheampong challenged the credibility of the poll, arguing that its methodology and sample size are insufficient to accurately reflect the views of a fixed delegate-based electorate.
He also questioned what he described as inconsistencies in the pollster’s trend analysis, particularly the suggestion that a significant number of delegates remain undecided despite no changes in the voter base. Additionally, he alleged that fear and intimidation may be affecting how some delegates respond to pollsters, though he declined to provide further details.
Despite these concerns, Dr. Acheampong said he remains confident that the results of the January primary will confirm his lead. He noted that his comments were meant to manage public expectations ahead of the contest.
Dr. Acheampong concluded by reaffirming his belief that his data-driven campaign strategy places him well ahead in the race to lead the NPP into the 2026 general elections.
