Counselor Frank Edem Adofoli has issued a warning about the long-lasting consequences of publicly airing personal pain during marital breakdowns, following Nana Ama McBrown’s recent revelation of her divorce.
In a thoughtful reflection, Adofoli compared McBrown’s situation to other high-profile public separations. He recalled receiving heavy criticism last year for speaking out against Medikal’s public video during his own relationship difficulties.
“A year ago, I was heavily criticized for speaking strongly against Medikal’s video during his separation,” Adofoli said. He emphasized that emotional outbursts in the heat of the moment often result in long-term consequences.
“While time can heal emotional wounds, the harsh words spoken in anger remain visible to the public and online,” he explained. “They leave an indelible mark on the other person’s reputation, and many relationships or reputations are irreparably damaged by such public breakdowns.”
Adofoli suggested that with time, people gain perspective and regret some of the things they’ve said in the heat of the moment. “Today, if you interviewed Medikal, I don’t believe he would speak as harshly as he did, because time has helped him heal,” he noted.
The counselor warned that emotional reactions during separations should be carefully managed. “Emotions will pass, but careless words can leave lasting scars on relationships built over many years,” he cautioned.
He also urged against unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as turning to alcohol or social media to vent frustration. “It is my prayer that we are supported during difficult times so that we can grieve and heal without turning to unhealthy outlets,” he said.
Adofoli concluded his reflection with a biblical reminder: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
