Donor Demands Refund After Cancer Patient Declines Blood Transfusion on Religious Grounds

 

A woman who contributed to a crowdfunding campaign for a cancer patient known as Aunty Esther has requested a refund after learning that the patient declined a doctor-recommended blood transfusion due to her religious beliefs.

Aunty Esther, a Jehovah’s Witness, chose not to undergo the transfusion and instead opted for alternative medical treatments permitted by her faith.

According to an update shared online by the campaign organizer, Aunty Esther is responding to medical care, and her blood levels are being stabilized in preparation for the next stage of treatment. However, she declined the blood transfusion required before beginning chemotherapy.

The organizer acknowledged that her decision may extend the duration of treatment and increase costs but emphasized that her religious convictions must be respected. All donated funds, the organizer added, will continue to be allocated toward her hospital bills and overall medical care.

Influencer @Wizarab10 shared the following message:

“Thank you to everyone who has supported Aunty Esther with donations and care. She is responding to treatment, and her blood levels are being optimized for the next phase. She was advised to undergo a blood transfusion before chemotherapy but declined due to her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness. Although this choice will prolong treatment and increase expenses, her religious beliefs must be respected. Donor Requests Refund

Shortly after the update was released, one of the donors publicly asked for her contribution to be refunded. She expressed frustration that the patient was relying on public donations while refusing a medical recommendation that could help her recovery.

The donor, identified as Miss Kenny, wrote:

“Can I respectfully ask for my money back?

She later added:

“I struggle to find clients, write proposals, go to the market, stay under the sun, and then donate my money — only for you to dictate to the doctor. No problem, it’s just ₦10,000. My account number is still up there.”
