“Igbos Are the Greatest Stakeholders in the Nigerian Project” – Vice President Kashim Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commended the Igbo community for what he described as their unparalleled contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth, social development, and national cohesion.

Speaking on national unity and the country’s economic future, Shettima referred to the Igbo as major stakeholders in the Nigerian project, citing their widespread presence, investments, and entrepreneurial influence across the nation.

He highlighted their significant economic footprint in cities such as Abuja and Lagos, noting that Igbo-owned businesses and properties constitute a large portion of commercial activity in these areas. According to him, the Igbo community’s mobility, industriousness, and educational drive are vital assets to Nigeria’s progress.

The Vice President urged leaders across all regions to invest in initiatives that strengthen local economies while promoting unity, inclusiveness, and mutual respect among Nigeria’s diverse groups.

Shettima also spoke on Nigeria’s projected demographic expansion, stating that the nation is on track to become the world’s third most populous country by 2050, and potentially the most populated by the end of the century. He expressed optimism about the country’s long-term prospects and reaffirmed his confidence in its collective potential.

His Words

“The Igbo are geographically mobile, economically enterprising, and educationally ambitious.
This nation is better with Ndigbo as part of the dispensation. Our duty as a government and as a people is to provide them with the tools, platforms, and opportunities to build the future that awaits them.

I dare say that Ndigbo are the greatest stakeholders in the Nigerian project. Half of Abuja is owned by Ndigbo, and a significant portion of Lagos’s population is made up of Ndigbo. There is hardly any place in this country where you will not find them. If you don’t see them, you should question the viability of that place.

The Federal Government stands ready to support Imo State in its investment initiatives. Our role is to unlock opportunities and ensure development reaches all communities. Imo is open for business. Nigeria is open for business. This government stands as your partner in progress.”
