The total value of mobile money transactions in Ghana has surged to GH¢3.6 trillion during the first ten months of 2025, ending in October.
This data was released in the latest Economic and Financial Data report from the Bank of Ghana, following the recent Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
The GH¢3.6 trillion figure represents transactions processed by telecom operators from January to October 2025. The report indicates strong month-on-month growth, with transactions amounting to GH¢406 billion in September, which increased to GH¢436 billion in October.
In comparison, the total transaction value for the same period in 2024 stood at GH¢2.368 trillion, and in 2023 it was GH¢1.367 trillion, showing a substantial year-on-year increase.
Industry experts attribute this growth to a rise in the number of people using mobile money for everyday payments, as well as efforts by the Bank of Ghana and commercial banks to promote a cashless economy. The wider acceptance of mobile money by businesses and institutions has also played a key role in driving the expansion.
As of October 2025, there were 79.1 million registered mobile money accounts, with 25.3 million of these being active. These accounts are supported by 949,000 registered agents across the country.
The total number of transactions during the period reached 893 million, including GH¢40 billion transferred across platforms via mobile money interoperability.
The robust growth of mobile money reflects the increasing role digital financial services are playing in Ghana’s economy.
