Six University of Ghana Learning Centres Found Unaccredited – GTEC

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a public notice revealing that six University of Ghana (UG) Learning Centres are operating without proper accreditation.

The Commission has warned that any qualifications obtained from these centres will not be recognized for employment, further education, or promotion purposes.

In a statement released on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, and signed by Dr. Emmanuel Oware Nyarko, the Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, GTEC urged prospective students, parents, and employers to verify the accreditation status of any tertiary institution or learning centre before making enrollment or hiring decisions.

Furthermore, GTEC has directed 11 other institutions to suspend new admissions until they meet the required accreditation standards. These institutions include the Institute of Business Management and Journalism (Kumasi), Rural Development College (Kwaso), University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (Bunso), Kings and Queens Medical College (Akosombo), and Springs College (Labone), among others.

Additionally, 26 institutions, such as Abbeam Institute of Technology (Kasoa), Lakeside University College (Accra), ILMA Institute of Science and Technology (Accra), Presbyterian Nurses’ Training College (Bawku), and Holy Spirit College of Education (Ho), have been identified as having lapsed institutional accreditation.

GTEC emphasized the risks associated with attending unaccredited institutions, including wasted time, financial losses, and limited career opportunities.

This notice forms part of GTEC’s ongoing efforts to protect the public, ensure quality assurance in higher education, and prevent misinformation and exploitation in the sector.
