Paul Yandoh Suggests Former NSS Boss May Spend Christmas in Custody

Paul Yandoh, the Ashanti Regional Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed that former National Service Scheme (NSS) boss, Osei Assibey Antwi, is likely to spend Christmas in custody due to the serious nature of the charges against him.

In an interview on Ezra Adekyee's show, which was monitored by *MyNewsGh*, Yandoh commented on the gravity of the allegations, stating, "The allegations against him are grave. Considering the hefty bail conditions, I feel he will spend Christmas in custody."

When asked whether the NPP would visit Assibey in prison to show solidarity, as was done for Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Wontumi, Yandoh remained cautious. "It depends on the closeness of the relationship. But regardless, we would ensure we show up to express support for him," he added.

The remarks come as Osei Assibey Antwi faces multiple serious charges. The former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA) has been accused of 14 offenses, including causing financial loss to the Republic, theft, and money laundering, in a case involving over GH¢600 million.

Court documents filed at the High Court in Accra reveal that Assibey allegedly authorized payments to more than 60,000 non-existent national service personnel, resulting in significant misappropriation of public funds during his tenure from August 2021 to February 2025.

Assibey is facing charges under sections 179A(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and section 1(2)(c) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044). Prosecutors claim he caused a financial loss of GH¢500,861,744.02 by authorizing payments to "ghost" service personnel and unlawfully appropriated millions of cedis between August 2023 and May 2024.
