The Northern Regional Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapping victim in Wapuli, located in the Yendi District, following a swift, intelligence-led operation.
According to police reports, the case was first lodged with the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) on December 2, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m. The kidnappers were said to have demanded a ransom of GH¢100,000 from the victim’s family.
Acting on the report, Northern Regional Commander DCOP Wisdom Lavoe deployed a five-member intelligence team from the Tamale RPID to Wapuli. Their coordinated surveillance and tactical efforts led to the safe rescue of the victim on December 5, 2025.
In the early hours of December 6, at around 12:30 a.m., police officers encountered the suspects, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The assailants fled, abandoning a motorbike bearing registration number M 25 NR and a Samsung mobile phone, both of which were retrieved as evidence.
Later that morning, three suspects—Haruna Seidu, 31; Amidu Bandi, 30; and Osman Bandi, 40—were arrested at Bokpaba along the Bimbila-Yendi road. Officers also recovered GH¢70,000, believed to be part of the ransom money, as well as two additional motorbikes. One suspect remains at large as investigations continue.
Police assure the public that efforts are underway to track down the remaining fugitive and dismantle any associated criminal networks.
