Former President John Dramani Mahama has shared insights into how his family came to settle in Chain Homes, emphasizing that the decision was shaped by community connections and neighborly warmth rather than privilege.
Speaking to residents, Mahama explained that his introduction to the estate came through acquaintances he already knew, including former colleagues and school friends.
“The first person I met that I knew was Paul,” he recalled. “He came to welcome me on behalf of the residents.”
He added that the welcome extended beyond mere formalities, with neighbors offering to guide him through the community. “He said, one of these evenings, I’ll take you around to greet our neighbors,” Mahama said.
The former president also spoke about reconnecting with old friends, including a university classmate who was entrepreneurial even during their student days. “We were in university together. When new Chinese films came, he would buy the rights, show them on campus, and charge us a small student fee,” he recounted.
Mahama said that the kindness and encouragement of neighbors ultimately influenced his family’s choice to make Chain Homes their permanent residence. “They convinced us to make our permanent home in this estate,” he said.
This account highlights how personal connections and a welcoming community played a key role in shaping the Mahamas’ life in Chain Homes.
