"The Armoured Cars Were Not Enough" – Mahama Recalls Neighbour’s Humorous Response to Security Measures

Former President John Dramani Mahama has shared a lighthearted story about the heightened security measures around his residence during his time in office, which transformed the peaceful atmosphere of Chain Homes.

Speaking to residents, Mahama reminisced about the abrupt security changes that took place once he became president. “Soldiers came and said, ‘Now that you are commander-in-chief, we have to take over your security,’” he recalled with a smile.

He described how armoured vehicles were stationed around his house, which created a more intimidating environment in the once-quiet neighbourhood. “Before I knew it, they brought armoured cars here, armoured cars there. The place looked very intimidating,” Mahama said.

Despite the disruption, Mahama reassured his neighbours, apologizing for the inconvenience and explaining that the heightened security was a temporary measure. “I told them, ‘Please bear with me, it’s just for four years,’” he shared.

However, one neighbour took a humorous approach to the situation, saying, “The armoured cars are not enough. Let them bring more!” Mahama laughed as he recounted the neighbour’s joke, drawing chuckles from the audience.

The former president used this anecdote to highlight the unusual and often disruptive nature of public office, especially when it comes to the impact it has on personal and community life.
