The Ghana Police Service has announced that screening for shortlisted applicants will commence on January 12, 2026. This marks the beginning of the documentation and body inspection phase for individuals seeking to join the police force as part of the 2025/2026 intake.
In a recent statement, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that after January 15, 2026, applicants for other internal security services, such as the Prisons, Fire, and Immigration services, will also receive their screening schedules. However, only those applying to the Ghana Police Service are scheduled for the screening between January 12 and February 4, 2026.
**Required Documents for Screening**
Applicants are reminded to bring the following documents to the screening to avoid disqualification:
* Application summary reports
* Biometric birth certificates
* Ghana Cards
* Junior High School certificates
* Two passport-sized photographs
* Other educational certificates
The Ministry has also issued a warning that any applicant who fails to report at the scheduled times will be disqualified. The morning session will begin at 7:00 a.m., while the noon session will start at 12:00 p.m.
**Changes in Recruitment Process**
The Ministry of the Interior has implemented several reforms to improve the safety and efficiency of the recruitment process. These changes were introduced after the tragic stampede at the El Wak stadium during a military recruitment exercise in November 2025, which resulted in the deaths of six individuals and left over 20 others injured.
To prevent overcrowding and potential safety hazards, the Ministry has outlined the following measures:
* Each recruitment center will be limited to 500–1,000 candidates per day, regardless of the facility's capacity.
* Multiple entry gates, clearly designated screening tables, and staggered time slots will be used to manage the flow of applicants and minimize risks.
* Waiting areas will provide seating, shade, water distribution (with assistance from the Ghana Prison Service), and canopy coverage to ensure candidates are comfortable.
* Screening days for different services will be staggered to avoid a large concentration of candidates at any single center. For instance, in one region, the police may screen 3,000 applicants, while the Prisons Service may handle 500, and the Immigration Service may have 300.
**Background on the El Wak Stampede**
The El Wak stampede on November 12, 2025, occurred during a body selection exercise for military recruitment. Thousands of applicants breached security protocols, rushing into the gates ahead of their scheduled screening times. This chaos resulted in the stampede, prompting the Ghana Armed Forces to remove senior military officers involved in the recruitment process.
New commanders have since been appointed to oversee the resumption of the recruitment exercise, ensuring greater transparency and the integrity of the investigation.
