Veteran Ghanaian musician Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has addressed public reactions following Prophet Fire Oja’s denial that he was arrested over alleged defamatory remarks made against her.
The controversy began on Monday, January 5, 2026, when Mzbel announced via social media that Prophet Fire Oja had been apprehended by the Ghana Police Service after she lodged a formal complaint against him. According to the singer, the action followed what she described as false and damaging statements made by the prophet regarding her personal life and spiritual experiences.
In her initial post, Mzbel stated that Fire Oja was in police custody and that investigations were ongoing. She further indicated that she would refrain from commenting publicly on the matter while law enforcement handled the case.
However, hours after Mzbel’s announcement, Fire Oja took to TikTok to deny claims of his arrest. The prophet described the reports as false and shared videos of himself appearing relaxed and dancing to music, seemingly to counter speculation that he was in police custody.
In response to Fire Oja’s denial, Mzbel released a video on her official Facebook page reiterating her earlier claims. She explained that the prophet was formally invited by the police, arrested, and placed in custody for questioning over the allegations he made against her. According to Mzbel, Fire Oja admitted to the claims during interrogation, a development she said influenced how the police proceeded with the matter.
Mzbel further stated that Fire Oja was later granted bail and that the case could proceed to court if necessary. She maintained that she had not misled the public and emphasized that her actions were motivated by a desire to protect her reputation. The musician also expressed her willingness to discuss the matter in greater detail through interviews with bloggers and media outlets.
The dispute between Mzbel and Fire Oja reportedly stems from allegations made by the prophet in 2025. He claimed that the singer suffered serious health complications and was hospitalized after visiting spiritual leader Ola Maame for what was described as a “soul travel” experience. Fire Oja also featured a young woman who alleged she was Mzbel’s former personal assistant and supported his claims. Additionally, he accused Mzbel of conspiring with Ola Maame to defraud women at a spiritual centre in Kasoa.
Mzbel has consistently denied all allegations, challenging those spreading the claims to provide credible evidence. She subsequently petitioned the Ghana Police Service, describing the statements as defamatory and harmful.
The incident has generated widespread debate on social media, with some users calling for an out-of-court settlement, while others insist the matter should be fully tested in court to deter what they describe as reckless accusations by religious figures.
As the situation continues to unfold, Mzbel has indicated that further developments will be made public as investigations progress.
