Lady Alleges Online Suitor Defrauded and Blackmailed Her After Birthday Date

TA young Nigerian woman has sparked widespread reactions online after sharing her alleged experience with an online suitor who she claims defrauded and later threatened her following a birthday meeting.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @Abazz, the lady explained that she met the man on TikTok approximately two months before her birthday. According to her, their conversations were pleasant and consistent, eventually leading to plans to meet in person on her birthday, which he promised would be a special celebration.

However, on the day of the planned meeting, she said she attempted to contact him but received no response for several hours. He later informed her that he had been arrested and was being held in police custody. The man reportedly pleaded with her to send ₦30,000, assuring her that he would refund the money once they eventually met.

Later that same day, he contacted her again and invited her to a hotel where he was staying. The following morning, after she briefly stepped out, he reached out to ask what she wanted to eat. When she responded, he allegedly requested an additional ₦5,000, claiming that his bank account was experiencing technical issues.

After returning home and narrating the incident to a friend, she was advised to request a refund, as it appeared the money she had sent was used to cover hotel expenses. When she demanded her money back, the man allegedly responded by sending her a “view once” image.

Upon opening the image, she claimed it was a nude photo of herself, which he used to threaten her to stop requesting a refund.

Her account has since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users expressing sympathy, while others questioned her judgment. One commenter wrote, “Men these days are now gigolos,” while another remarked, “How did you not see the warning signs?”

The incident has reignited conversations about online dating safety and the risks associated with trusting strangers met through social media platforms.
