President John Dramani Mahama has expressed profound sorrow over the sudden passing of the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, describing the loss as shocking and deeply painful.

During a visit to the bereaved family in Accra, the President conveyed his condolences and urged them to remain strong in this difficult period. According to a report by Citi News, President Mahama noted that the death of the legislator came as a surprise to many, including himself.

“Nobody would have thought that Toure would leave us so soon. His death came as a shock to me, but God knows best. May his soul rest in peace, and our deepest condolences to you, his family. Stay strong in these difficult times,” the President said.

Photos from the condolence visit, which included several Members of Parliament, were later shared by Parliament on its official Facebook page.

Hon. Naser Toure Mahama passed away on January 4, 2026, after a short illness and was laid to rest on January 5, 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, party members, and members of the public, who have praised his dedication to public service and community development.

Widely respected for his grassroots initiatives, the late MP was particularly known for projects such as Operation Cement Your Lungu, an intervention aimed at improving sanitation in underserved communities within his constituency.

In a statement issued on January 5, Parliament described the late legislator as a devoted public servant whose contributions would be long remembered.

“Hon. Naser Toure Mahama served our country with diligence, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility. His contributions to the House, his advocacy for development projects, and his tireless efforts to improve the lives of the people he represented will be remembered. He embodied the ethos of service and philanthropy that define public life,” the statement read.

Background

Naser Toure Mahama was born on March 17, 1965, in Nima, Greater Accra Region. He attended West Africa Senior High School and later Central University College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. He also obtained a Diploma in Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a Master of Business Administration from Doshisha University in Japan.

He entered Parliament in 2012 after winning the Ayawaso East seat and served continuously until his death. During his tenure, he held several key positions, including Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, and was a member of the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, and the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.

Hon. Naser Toure Mahama is remembered as a committed legislator, a passionate advocate for development, and a servant of the people whose legacy will endure beyond his years.
