Viral Video Exposes Alleged Sale of Counterfeit LG Televisions in Lagos’ Alaba Market

A video circulating widely on social media has sparked public outrage after allegedly exposing the large-scale sale of counterfeit LG televisions at Alaba International Market in Lagos.

The footage shows a man manually printing LG logos on cartons containing 45-inch and 55-inch television sets. According to the narrator in the video, the cartons belonged to fake televisions and numbered more than 3,000 units. The narrator claimed to have encountered the operation during a visit to Alaba Market, describing the scene as evidence of an organized counterfeiting scheme.

“So yesterday I was in Alaba and came across a man printing LG logos on all these new TV cartons,” the voiceover said, adding that the volume of cartons suggested mass production of counterfeit goods.

The video has prompted warnings to consumers, urging them to exercise caution when purchasing electronics—particularly LG-branded products—at the popular electronics market. Viewers have been advised to buy only from authorized and registered distributors to avoid falling victim to counterfeit products.

The clip has generated mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing frustration and concern over the prevalence of fake goods in the market. While some commenters condemned the alleged practice as dishonest and damaging to the economy, others suggested the possibility that the cartons were being repackaged due to damage, though this claim remains unverified.

Several social media users also shared personal experiences of purchasing televisions they later suspected to be counterfeit, further intensifying public concern. Others called on regulatory authorities to strengthen enforcement and crack down on counterfeiting, warning that the unchecked spread of fake products—from electronics to pharmaceuticals—poses serious risks to consumers and undermines legitimate businesses.

The incident has renewed calls for stricter oversight of major commercial hubs and greater consumer awareness to combat the growing problem of counterfeit goods in Nigeria.
