MIAMI — American rapper Rick Ross was arrested early Thursday morning in Miami Beach on charges related to a domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend, model and content creator Jazzma Kendrick.
Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, surrendered to authorities and was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at approximately 6:10 a.m. local time, according to jail records. The 50-year-old artist faces one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery, both classified as domestic violence-related offenses.
The Allegations
The arrest follows public accusations made by Kendrick, 39, who took to Instagram on September 26 to share photos of a swollen lip and describe an alleged physical attack. In the now-deleted posts, she wrote, "The day Rick busted my lip and the day I left," and stated, "I don't know a lot of things, but I do know that a man that puts his hands on me, is a man that never loved me and never will".
According to an arrest affidavit, Kendrick contacted police on September 29 regarding an incident that allegedly occurred on August 28 at the home they shared. She claimed Ross became enraged after seeing a photo she was tagged in on social media and accused her of lying about being involved with another man.
Kendrick alleged that Ross slapped her in the face, struck her in the chest multiple times, and choked her by grabbing the collar of her hoodie and twisting it until she struggled to breathe. She also accused him of grabbing her by her ponytail and slamming her against a wall, causing her lip to burst. Authorities say Kendrick provided photographic evidence of her injuries with timestamps that coincided with the alleged incident.
Legal Response and Denial
Ross has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His attorneys, Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein, released a statement denying the allegations and questioning the timing of Kendrick's complaint.
"William Roberts II, professionally known as Rick Ross, is being wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend whose true motivations are unclear," the statement read. "The ex did not even file a police report until a month after the claimed incident allegedly took place. Mr. Roberts is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges".
The attorneys also urged the public not to prejudge the case, requesting that friends, fans, and the general public "allow the judicial process to run its course".
Bond and Next Steps
Ross was released from custody after posting bond. His bond was set at $5,000 for the felony battery by strangulation charge and $1,000 for the misdemeanor battery charge, bringing the total to $6,000. During his court hearing, a judge also ordered Ross to stay away from his accuser, who was identified only as "J.K." in court documents.
His arraignment is scheduled for October 22.
Background
Ross, a longtime Miami resident with a mansion on Star Island, is a prominent figure in the hip-hop industry, known for hits like "Hustlin'" and for founding the Maybach Music Group. This is not his first legal issue; in 2015, he was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery for allegedly pistol-whipping a groundskeeper at his Atlanta estate. He later pleaded no contest to one felony count of aggravated assault.
Kendrick and Ross had been linked since at least August 2025, when they were photographed together at a Florida launch event for his luxury bag and accessories collection.
