A video featuring an important warning for non-Muslim women going out with Muslim men has sparked a controversial debate on social media. The woman in the video warns non-Muslim women that if they continue to date Muslim men, they should ensure that they will not "be the second wife"
or else "he'll marry his Muslim sister when it's time". According to her, many Muslim men begin relationships with non-Muslim women and "fool around" until the point they feel it is necessary to get married. She also says that "Muslims' family does not accept non-Muslims", so she advises that non-Muslim women should "ask before you go into anything".
After being shared by YabaLeftOnline initially, the video soon began to trend across Nigeria, with many people commenting and expressing various opinions regarding the controversial warning.
Muslim Man Shares Similar Thoughts
One of the commenters was a Muslim man who identified himself as Oscay, a Muslim Hausa. Surprisingly, the commenter shared similar thoughts as the woman in the video. He said,
"What she said is very true from my Muslim Hausa perspective. Most of my friends date non-Muslims, but they don't have any intention of marrying them. I've dated a non-Muslim before, but I've never had any intentions of marrying her".
Demzzylade Warns That This Is Not Only A Religious Problem
However, not everyone agreed with what the woman and Oscay shared.
Demzzylade shared his opinion that it is not a religious problem, but rather a problem of people's mentality.
"It happens not just in religion, it's cheating! He already have the one he want to marry, will the one he want to marry come out of the woodwork?". The commenter was implying that some men use their relationships with non-Muslim women as an alternative to cheating.
Others Express Disappointment And Accusations
There were also people who expressed disappointment and accusations.
For example, Muhammed wrote, "It's sad. They are not being good examples of what Prophet Muhammad said". Some commenters even started an argument about the relationship between Christians and Muslims. One of the commenters, Ola, insulted Christians by saying that they are "greedy for money", and another, Nano, insulted Muslims by saying that "they are not faithful".
The Debate On Relationships Between Christians And Muslims In Nigeria
The video was simply an excerpt of a much bigger problem that has been going on for a while. For example, in late 2026, Pastor Emmanuel Iren, of Celebration Church International, warned Christian women that they should not date Muslim men because a child born from a Christian and a Muslim would be brought up as a Muslim, according to the Nigerian Tribune .
Solomon Buchi later echoed the warning by claiming that "Christian and Muslim marriages are not part of God's plan" because they could result in children not knowing which religion to practice. On the other hand, Daddy Freeze, a media personality, strongly opposed the idea by saying that "you are born into a religion, but love is a choice".
"Most of the pastors said it's bad, you are unequally yoked, blah, blah, blah. If you're thinking like this, then you deserve the government we have. Because Nigeria's two biggest problems are tribalism and religion."
The Religious Conflict And Its Effects On Non-Muslim Women Dating Muslim Men
From this situation, we see how a warning from a simple video can cause such a big debate. It also shows us the importance of asking the important questions before getting into a relationship. Although it is said that love knows no religion, in the case of Nigeria, it can be said that "religion knows love".
