Norgbey Warns Against Allegations of Drug Trafficking at KIA, Citing Threats to Ghana’s Reputation

Ashaiman Member of Parliament (MP) and member of the Defence and Interior Committee, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has expressed concerns over the recent allegations made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the committee's Ranking Member, regarding potential drug trafficking and money laundering at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

During a segment on Channel One Newsroom on April 2, Norgbey criticized Fordjour's decision to publicly address these serious claims, particularly the suggestion that cocaine had been brought into the country via two flights. He cautioned that such unsubstantiated allegations could significantly tarnish Ghana’s international image.

"When unfounded accusations are made, especially regarding sensitive matters like drug trafficking, it has the potential to damage the integrity of our nation," Norgbey stated.

The MP further questioned Fordjour’s choice to bring the matter to the media instead of addressing it through the appropriate official channels within the committee. He emphasized that responsible communication is essential when dealing with national security issues, stating, “If, hypothetically, these claims were false, why would one bypass the proper channels and go directly to the media?”

Norgbey’s comments highlight the importance of ensuring that allegations, especially those related to national security, are handled carefully to protect Ghana’s standing on the global stage.
