Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has officially begun a three-week medical leave starting April 7, 2025. The leave follows a recommendation from her medical team, urging her to prioritize her health and recovery. Sources at Jubilee House have confirmed the development.
The Vice President’s decision to take medical leave comes after a series of health challenges, which initially led her to seek treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra. Subsequently, she pursued further medical attention abroad.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during a community event in Lagos, Nigeria on April 6, 2025, provided assurances regarding the Vice President’s recovery. He emphasized that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is showing positive progress and is expected to return to her official duties shortly.
Ablakwa also took the opportunity to thank Ghanaians both at home and abroad for their continued support, expressing that their well-wishes have greatly contributed to her recovery. He strongly condemned the spread of what he referred to as "un-Ghanaian propaganda" regarding her health and urged the public to instead focus on her inspiring leadership, particularly her role as a trailblazer for women and girls.
