UCC Mourns Final-Year Student Candy Osei Abora After Tragic Gas Explosion



The University of Cape Coast (UCC) community is in mourning following the untimely death of Miss Candy Osei Abora, a final-year Bachelor of Arts student and resident of Valco Hall. She tragically lost her life on Monday, May 19, 2025, in a gas explosion that occurred in Cape Coast.

Her passing was officially confirmed in a heartfelt statement issued by Valco Hall on Tuesday, May 20. The announcement described her as a "vibrant and promising soul" whose life was "tragically cut short."

“With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the untimely passing of Miss Candy Osei Abora, a cherished Level 400 student of the University of Cape Coast, affiliated with Valco Hall and pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree.
As we mourn the loss of such a vibrant and promising soul, we stand in unity with her family and loved ones during this period of immense grief. May her gentle soul find eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.” – Valco Hall Management

Although the full details and cause of the explosion are still under investigation, Candy's death has had a profound impact on both her peers and faculty members, who remember her for her warmth, determination, and kindness.



Candy's story has resonated deeply online, with tributes pouring in from social media users and friends who were touched by her life and sudden loss.

The university has pledged to support her family and loved ones as they navigate this tragic loss. A memorial service is expected to be held in her house.
