The Ghana Armed Forces has announced the temporary closure of the Trauma and Surgical Emergency Unit at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. This measure, which will take place from Monday, August 4 to Wednesday, August 13, 2025, is intended to facilitate fumigation and routine maintenance.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations, the closure is part of a broader initiative to maintain high standards of hygiene and safety within the facility.
During the maintenance period, all trauma and surgical emergency cases will be redirected to the Simango Ward, which has been specifically designated to manage emergencies while the primary unit is offline.
"The public is assured that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the continuity of care and minimize inconvenience," the Ghana Armed Forces stated.
The closure is described as a routine safety protocol aimed at preserving a clean and secure environment for patients and healthcare professionals alike.
The 37 Military Hospital, located in central Accra, is one of Ghana’s leading referral hospitals. Operated by the Ghana Armed Forces, it serves both military personnel and civilians, offering a wide range of emergency services and specialized medical procedures. The hospital is well-regarded for its discipline, clinical efficiency, and quality healthcare delivery.
