The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially commenced its campaign in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region, with a strong and united front aimed at retaining the parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election.
Led by the party’s parliamentary candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, the campaign is receiving active support from the NPP’s national leadership. General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, is currently on the ground in Akwatia, engaging constituents and advocating for continued support for the party.
During one of the community interactions, Mr. Kodua urged the electorate to consider Solomon Asumadu’s long-standing commitment to the constituency, highlighting his developmental contributions even without holding political office.
“When we selected Asumadu, it was clear that he was a man of integrity. Everyone acknowledged his dedication to the people of Akwatia and his commitment to development. We are confident that the voters will recognize his track record and vote massively for him in the upcoming by-election,” Kodua stated.
Following the passing of the constituency’s former Member of Parliament, the NPP, in a move to preserve internal unity, unanimously endorsed Solomon Asumadu—who currently serves as the party’s constituency treasurer—to represent the party in the by-election.
The Akwatia by-election is scheduled for September 2, 2025. Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its parliamentary primaries on August 4, 2025, to select their candidate.
