Dino Melaye Expresses Deep Regret Over Past Support for APC

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has publicly expressed remorse over his past political alliance with Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Describing the decision as a profound misjudgment, Melaye admitted that his support for the party contributed to the nation's deteriorating state.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a political program aired on Channels Television, Melaye offered a candid apology:

“Once I was blind, now I can see. I regret my involvement in its entirety. Just like we seek forgiveness in the Lord’s Prayer, I ask for forgiveness. Anyone who has aligned with unholy tendencies should express regret.”

Melaye, once a prominent supporter of the APC and an outspoken critic of opposition parties, strongly criticized the current administration, accusing it of worsening Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges. He stated that the APC had failed to fulfill the expectations of the Nigerian people and denounced what he called its “unholy tendencies.”

Now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Melaye expressed optimism about the party’s future, asserting that it is well-positioned to mount a credible challenge against President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

“I am confident that the ADC will emerge as a credible alternative. Nigerians are weary, and the time for change has come,” he declared.

His remarks may signal renewed momentum among opposition forces, as political activity begins to intensify ahead of the next election cycle.
