Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of eight individuals, including two government ministers, in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Among the deceased are Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. The group was reportedly en route to perform official national duties when the accident occurred.
In an official statement released by his office, the former President said:
“With all humility, I join the nation in mourning the shocking passing of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and the six others who lost their lives in today’s tragic helicopter crash while on their way to fulfil a national assignment.”
Mr. Kufuor extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, friends, and colleagues, describing the incident as not just a personal loss, but a national tragedy.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and colleagues of all those who perished in this tragic incident. May we honour their memory by striving for compassion, unity, and a common purpose in serving our beloved country, Ghana.”
He further called for national solidarity and comfort for the grieving, urging Ghanaians to support the affected families and the sitting President during this difficult time.
“May God console the entire nation, especially the families of the deceased, the President of the Republic, and all Ghanaians.”
