The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a second suspect in connection with the violent clash at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of three people and left several others injured.
The latest arrest involves 35-year-old Christian Saka Ahianyevi, a private security officer, who was apprehended on the same day as the incident. His arrest follows the earlier detention of 26-year-old Newton Alotey, a dispatch rider, on August 31.
Police reports indicate that Ahianyevi was found with a locally made pistol, a cutlass, and other materials, all of which have been seized as evidence. Alotey, on the other hand, was arrested with 18 spent BB cartridges in his possession. All seized items have been secured for further investigation.
Both arrests were made as part of a coordinated intelligence operation led by the Accra Regional Police Command, with assistance from the Special Support Unit at the National Police Headquarters. The two suspects are currently in custody and are actively cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.
The police have assured the public that a strong security presence remains in the affected areas to maintain peace. Authorities are also urging residents and rival factions to remain calm and work alongside security personnel. Additionally, the police have appealed to the public for credible information on other potential suspects, urging anyone with such information to contact the police emergency lines at 18555 or 191.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 1, the Accra Regional Police Command called on the community to support efforts to ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.
