A 45-year-old driver, Albert Cobbina, has been remanded into police custody by the Asante Akropong District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District, as investigations continue into the suspicious death of his wife, Grace Asantewaa. Cobbina is suspected of involvement in her death.
Cobbina’s plea was not entered when he appeared before the court, which is presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Wiafe Adu. He is scheduled to return to court on September 15, 2025.
According to Police Chief Inspector David Kwabi, Cobbina and his late wife resided at Fankyenebra, near Santasi, in the Kumasi metropolis. On August 24, 2025, Cobbina reportedly contacted the Suntreso Police, informing them that his wife had been discovered dead in a pool of blood, with a kitchen knife found nearby.
Cobbina initially claimed that he rushed his wife to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical treatment, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. However, the prosecution pointed out inconsistencies in his statements during investigation, which raised suspicions of foul play. As a result, Cobbina was detained, and charges were filed in connection with his wife’s death.
While the investigation is ongoing, further proceedings will be determined as more evidence comes to light.
