The Board Chairman of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr. George Spencer Quaye, has issued a stern warning to staff, emphasizing that any form of corruption will not be tolerated. He highlighted that any funds lost due to fraudulent activities are essentially stolen from the state and the people of Ghana.
Speaking at the DVLA 2025 Mid-Year Review Conference held in Ejisu, Ashanti Region, Mr. Quaye stressed the importance of integrity, discipline, and accountability in maintaining the Authority’s credibility and its role in national development.
"The Board will not tolerate corruption. We will protect integrity, reward transparency, and hold accountable anyone who puts personal gain above national duty. Every cedi lost to fraud is a cedi stolen from the Republic," he stated firmly.
While acknowledging the progress made in digitizing services, such as the Vehicle Registration System (VRS), Mr. Quaye pointed out that there are still existing loopholes that must be addressed promptly. He urged DVLA staff at all levels to adopt innovation, improve efficiency, and uphold transparency to restore the public's trust in the Authority.
In addition to fighting corruption, Mr. Quaye called for a stronger alignment of DVLA’s operations with road safety. He expressed concern that many vehicles on Ghana’s roads remain unchecked for roadworthiness. To address this, he directed regional managers to develop bi-annual road safety strategies and enhance collaboration with the Police MTTD (Motor Traffic and Transport Division) to improve compliance with safety regulations.
Mr. Quaye also commended the Chief Executive, Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, for his leadership and urged for the full implementation of the Authority’s Research Advisory and Data Services framework. This, he emphasized, would generate data-driven insights to inform national policies.
"DVLA is not just an Authority; it is a custodian of life, a guardian of order, and a driver of national development. Let us not merely manage transport — let us redefine it," he concluded.
The 2025 Mid-Year Review Conference was attended by DVLA management, board members, regional managers, staff, the Deputy Minister for Transport, and the Ashanti Regional Minister.
