Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has criticised the 2026 Budget, describing it as lacking concrete solutions and failing to outline a clear path for economic growth and job creation.
Speaking to TESCON members at UDS-NYC, he argued that the government has not adequately addressed the economic challenges facing the country. According to him, the administration continues to disregard well-established facts.
“Four days ago, the Bank of Ghana issued a statement, confirming something the NDC has been denying,” he said, insisting that the government must stop shifting blame for the current economic difficulties.
Dr. Adam accused the administration of mismanaging the economy and attempting to mask its shortcomings with short-term interventions. He added, “We didn’t win power to enjoy the fruits of our labour. They came in without restriction and started putting billions of dollars.”
He maintained that these actions have not translated into meaningful progress. “Just overnight, the cedi will become stronger. But that is existence,” he noted, stressing that the underlying structure of the economy remains weak.
The former minister reiterated that the 2026 Budget has failed to inspire public or investor confidence. He labelled it “hopeless, jobless, and growthless,” arguing that it does not address the urgent needs of unemployed youth or the struggling private sector.
Dr. Adam further emphasised the need for transparency in national economic discourse. “Ghanaians will know the truth. I will tell the truth,” he declared, adding that the government must acknowledge its shortcomings rather than relying on what he called propaganda.
