The High Commissions of Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom in Ghana have launched a joint one-week public awareness campaign aimed at helping Ghanaians protect themselves from visa fraud.
The initiative comes amid a rise in scams involving fraudulent agents who entice applicants with false promises, often resulting in financial loss, emotional distress, and in some cases, long-term travel restrictions.
This campaign forms part of a broader global effort led by UK Visas and Immigration, supported by partner countries including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It also aligns with International Fraud Awareness Week, observed from 16 to 22 November 2025.
The goal is to educate prospective travelers on how legitimate visa systems operate and how to recognise fraudulent schemes before falling victim to them.
Many Ghanaians seeking opportunities abroad rely on third-party agents for assistance. While some agents provide lawful and reliable services, others mislead applicants with claims of guaranteed approvals or special shortcuts that do not exist.
To address this, the three High Commissions will share practical guidance on social media, advising the public to use official government channels and avoid high-risk practices.
Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Berenice Owen-Jones, underscored the importance of the initiative, stating:
“Australia is proud to stand with our international partners to combat visa fraud. The Fighting Visa Fraud campaign sends a clear message: if you are applying for a visa, always use trusted official sources and beware of anyone promising shortcuts or guaranteed results.”
According to the missions, their collective objective is to protect genuine applicants while ensuring visa systems remain transparent, secure, and fair.
The public is encouraged to follow the campaign online under the hashtag #AUSCANUKGH and to verify information only through the official websites of each respective country.
