Democracy Hub has filed a defamation lawsuit at the High Court against businessman Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Freedom Jacob Caesar or Cheddar, over statements he made on 25 and 26 September 2024.
According to the group, the remarks falsely portrayed its activities and organisers as politically motivated and aligned with partisan interests.
In a statement issued by the Democracy Hub Secretariat, the organisation described the allegations as “entirely false, without basis, and inconsistent with our long-standing record of independent civic mobilisation.”
The group emphasised that its protests—including #FixTheCountry, #OccupyJulorbiHouse, and #StopGalamsey—have always been organised transparently and without sponsorship or direction from any political party.
Since its formation, Democracy Hub has positioned itself as an advocate for constitutionalism, accountable governance, and citizen empowerment in Ghana. The organisation stressed that attempts to misrepresent its work not only damage the reputations of its members but also undermine the credibility of civic activism nationwide.
The lawsuit follows public comments by Nana Kwame Bediako that, according to Democracy Hub, sought to depict the organisation as a tool for political agendas. The legal action aims to challenge these assertions and pursue appropriate remedies through the judicial process.
