The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for a suspect who stabbed a firefighter during efforts to extinguish a blaze that engulfed an eight-room, one-storey building at Adjiringano near Ability Square in the Greater Accra Region on Friday night.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), two firefighters were injured during the operation. One was stabbed when he prevented an individual from entering the burning building, as the suspect was allegedly attempting to loot the property. The GNFS has since announced a reward for anyone who can assist in identifying or locating the attacker.
The Service reported receiving the emergency call at 9:32 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025. The first fire engine from the Legon Fire Station arrived at 10:03 p.m., supported by additional teams from the Madina, National Headquarters, and Adenta Fire Stations, as well as a private water tanker, ensuring a continuous water supply for the operation.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 12:16 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 1:08 a.m. While seven out of eight rooms on the top floor were destroyed, one room was salvaged. The crew also successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the ground floor and nearby buildings.
The two injured firefighters were treated at Unity Clinic in Madina. The stabbed firefighter sustained a wound to his left arm, while the second officer was struck on the left shoulder by a falling block. Both were treated and discharged.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
