The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has strongly condemned a violent incident captured in a viral social media video showing a man—believed to be a landlord—physically assaulting a woman alleged to be his wife.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 17, the Ministry described the act as “barbaric,” stressing that no individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstances. It added that such behaviour violates the rights of the victim and carries legal consequences.
The Ministry revealed that the sector Minister has contacted the Ghana Police Service to ensure a thorough investigation and to support efforts toward securing justice. It further encouraged witnesses with relevant information to assist the police.
MoGCSP noted that domestic and sexual violence remain persistent national challenges and urged the public to report such cases promptly.
“We reaffirm our commitment to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that perpetrators of domestic violence face the full rigours of the law,” the statement from the Public Affairs Unit said.
The Ministry also called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre at 0800-111-222, the Helpline of Hope call centre at 0800-800-800 / 0800-900-900, or at the nearest police station.
