Police Arrest ‘Abeiku,’ Suspected Serial Mining Site Robber, Following Sefwi Antobia Attack

The Western North Regional Police Command has apprehended a man suspected of being behind a series of robbery attacks on mining sites across the region. The arrest follows an overnight raid at a mining site near Sefwi Antobia, during which miners were assaulted and robbed.

The suspect, identified as Victor Biney, also known by the alias *Abeiku*, was arrested on Monday, November 17, 2025. The police confirmed the arrest in a statement released on November 18, 2025.

According to the police report, the arrest came after a group of seven armed and masked men launched an attack on a mining site near Sefwi Antobia. The assailants, armed with cutlasses and guns, beat the miners and made off with large amounts of gold concentrate and several mobile phones.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the attackers were carrying pump-action and single-barrel guns. During the assault, they inflicted heavy physical harm on the miners. Notably, three of the attackers were seen wearing distinctive smocks—one of which had talismans attached—while another wore a military shirt.

Following the raid, police officers conducted a search at Biney’s shrine in Attakrom, where they recovered several items believed to be linked to the robbery. Among the items found were a military camouflage shirt, handcuffs, two cutlasses, a single-barrel gun, flashlights, 17 live AAA cartridges, multiple smocks, mercury, gold concentrate particles, a pump-action gun butt, and other materials.

Biney reportedly admitted to owning many of the items discovered during the search. Victims of the robbery were able to identify several of the recovered items—including the flashlights, mercury, gold concentrate, and three of the smocks—as belonging to them. They also confirmed that the military shirt and some of the smocks matched the clothing worn by the attackers during the raid.

Biney appeared before the Juaboso District Court on November 17, 2025, and was remanded into police custody. He is scheduled to return to court on December 8, 2025.

The police have confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining six suspects who are still at large.
