Andre Ayew Joins NAC Breda on Free Transfer Ahead of Second Half of 2025/26 Season

Former Ghana captain Andre Ayew has officially signed for Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda, completing a free-transfer move during the winter transfer window ahead of the second half of the 2025/26 season.

The 36-year-old forward joins the Dutch club after spending the first half of the campaign without a team, having left French Ligue 1 side Le Havre at the end of the 2024/25 season. NAC Breda confirmed Ayew’s arrival on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, following the successful completion of his medical examinations. He has signed a contract that will run until the end of the season.

Ayew, one of Ghana’s most decorated footballers, brings vast experience at both club and international levels. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has made more than 600 professional appearances and earned 120 caps for the Ghana Black Stars, underlining his pedigree and leadership qualities.

Speaking after completing the move, Ayew expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead, particularly as NAC Breda battle to retain their Eredivisie status.

“I’m someone who really enjoys challenges, both personally and as part of a team. I find that here at NAC. I want to do everything I can to help the club and my teammates,” Ayew said.

He stressed the importance of mental strength as the club prepares for a demanding second half of the season.

“We’re in a situation where staying in the Eredivisie is the only thing that matters. The mental aspect is perhaps the most important thing in this situation. Together with our supporters, we must fight this battle head-on in the second half of the season,” he added.

NAC Breda’s technical director, Peter Maas, revealed that Ayew’s motivation, professionalism, and hunger to compete were decisive factors in the club’s decision to sign him.

“Andre is eager to help NAC in their fight for survival. That became very clear from our conversations,” Maas said. “We are in a tough situation, but Ayew has also experienced challenging moments in his career.”

Maas further highlighted Ayew’s discipline and professionalism, expressing confidence that his experience and composure under pressure could make an immediate impact.

“He is a true sportsman who takes good care of himself, and we believe that with his experience and specific qualities, he can be of value to NAC right now,” Maas concluded.

Ayew will link up immediately with head coach Carl Hoefkens’ squad, with NAC Breda set to resume training on Friday, January 2, at the BO Infra Training Complex in Zundert.

The son of African football legend Abedi Ayew Pelé, Andre Ayew has featured across Europe’s top leagues, including the Premier League, Ligue 1 and 2, the Championship, the Turkish Super Lig, and the UEFA Champions League. He has scored over 160 goals in nearly 600 official matches, reaffirming his status as one of Ghana’s most accomplished footballers of his generation.
