The Accra High Court has dismissed an application filed by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to lift the freeze on the bank account of his company, Paradise Insurance.
The request was part of a challenge to a decision made by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), which froze the account as part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities involving Wontumi and his associated entities.
After hearing the case, the court refused to lift the freezing order, effectively maintaining the restrictions on the account. The case was then adjourned indefinitely.
Following the hearing, Wontumi’s lawyer spoke to the media, confirming the outcome and clarifying the nature of the application. “Today's case involved one of Chairman Wontumi's companies, Paradise Insurance, and the freezing of its accounts. We applied for the order to be set aside, but it has been adjourned,” the lawyer explained.
When asked for further clarification on the court’s decision, the lawyer confirmed that the application had been denied. “The court refused the application, so that's all for today,” he stated. He assured that updates would follow as related matters continue to develop.
Chairman Wontumi had argued that the freezing order was unjust and sought the court's intervention to overturn the Financial Intelligence Centre's directive. However, the court found no sufficient grounds to grant the request at this time.
