Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the NDC government to refocus its attention on urgent national concerns rather than what he describes as extravagant and unnecessary spending.
In a Facebook post, Aboagye questioned the government’s decision to purchase a new presidential jet, criticizing the administration for taking an action it had previously condemned.
“You said buying a plane was wrong because the country was poor. The country listened, trusted you, and voted massively for you. Yet within 11 months, you turn around and purchase an even more expensive presidential jet. And you think this is funny?” he wrote.
Aboagye further accused the government of sidelining essential public services while prioritizing non-essential projects. He emphasized that many nurses and teachers who were promised automatic postings remain unemployed, and noted that approximately 35,000 young Ghanaians have recently lost their jobs.
He also drew attention to the economic challenges confronting the public, stating that utility tariffs have risen by more than 28 percent. Despite improvements in inflation and currency stability, he noted that prices of goods continue to climb, placing additional strain on households.
Aboagye urged the government to take seriously the expectations of the Ghanaian people and demonstrate greater accountability and responsible leadership.
“Some of us are not surprised because we always knew what you were. Get serious, stop the distractions, and focus on delivering the promises you made. Spending $60 million on a presidential jet at this time is a sin, a crime, and a sign of disrespect to the people,” he added.
