The Super Eagles will close 2025 ranked 38th in the world, according to the latest FIFA rankings released on Monday. This position is unchanged from the November 19 update, which had already seen Nigeria rise three places from 41st.
Nigeria also maintains its status as the sixth-ranked team in Africa.
### A Mixed Year, Modest Progress
Overall, 2025 was a mixed year for the Super Eagles. Despite ups and downs, the team ended the year six places higher than its starting position of 44th globally. The first ranking of the year, released in April, had seen Nigeria move up one spot to 43rd.
Progress was inconsistent throughout the year, with Nigeria dropping to 44th in July and 45th in September.
### Late Surge Secures Year-End Position
October marked a turning point as the Super Eagles jumped four places to 41st—Nigeria’s biggest single rise since the 14-place surge in February 2024 following their AFCON silver medal finish in Côte d’Ivoire.
The upward momentum continued in November, with a three-place climb to 38th, a ranking the team retained in the year-end release.
### Africa and Global Standings
At the top of African football, Morocco remains the continent’s highest-ranked team at 11th globally, with Senegal second in Africa at 19th. Algeria rose to 34th, overtaking Egypt, which slipped to 35th.
Globally, the top 10 remained unchanged: Spain finished first, followed by world champions Argentina in second, France third, England fourth, and Brazil fifth. Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia complete the top 10.
The next FIFA rankings will be announced on January 19, 2026, a day after the Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco.
