Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioner and psychologist, Mrs. Perfect Kumah-Oduro, widely known as Counsellor Perfect, has urged couples to embrace patience and understanding, emphasizing that no marriage is ever completely perfect.
Speaking on *Joy Prime’s Let’s Talk* show, while discussing the topic, “My husband provides and shows up practically, but I don’t feel seen,” she explained that marriage is an ongoing journey of growth, not a final destination of completeness.
According to Counsellor Perfect, partners must understand that it takes time to truly get to know each other and learn how to express love in ways that are meaningful for both. “There will come a time when he will understand her better, and she will also learn to appreciate him more. Nothing in life is perfect, including marriage,” she shared.
She also stressed that compromise is unavoidable in any relationship and advised couples to let go of unrealistic expectations for the sake of harmony. She pointed out that some individuals may not have been raised to show affection in certain ways, such as giving gifts, and that understanding these differences can prevent unnecessary conflict.
In such cases, she encouraged couples to reflect on their backgrounds and communicate respectfully, avoiding assumptions or accusations. “When you understand your partner’s upbringing, it becomes easier to approach situations with compassion,” she added.
Counsellor Perfect acknowledged that conflicts are inevitable due to the different backgrounds and life experiences of partners, but she emphasized that with conscious effort, couples can make small, positive changes that will, over time, transform their relationships.
“These intentional actions can gradually bring peace, stability, and sanity into our homes,” she concluded.
